When I'm in the groove, it's almost like I'm dancing through the shop. Every moment is intentional, and I know my next few steps so the transition from one step to the next is smooth and easy. Progress is steady and satisfying. There's no better feeling,
This month, I'm sharing my favourite "in the groove" tools - the ones that enhance flow by helping me completing the job quickly while reducing or eliminating additional work.
If the joint is not on display, Domino it
I've done my fair share of fancy joinery including original and decorative joints. But whenever I need a strong joint that won't be showcased, I reach for the Domino joiner. I won't do mitres without it. I have both sizes, but use the DF 500 more. (If you don't have a Domino joiner, you won't find a better deal this decade than Festool's new starter sets.)
Silky smooth cuts without power tools
When a power saw is unsuitable for the task, I reach for my Silky Kataba. It has a 9-1/2 inch taper ground blade that makes quick work of any cut (including flush cuts) and leaves a great finish.
A place for everything and everything in it's place
Organization away from the shop is a challenge, so I put together Systainer tool kits to handle most jobs on site. I know exactly where every tool is so I can grab what I need without searching.
