Woodpeckers Odd Job is based on a Stanley Tool Works design from 1888 capable of performing all sorts of marking and measuring tasks. Woodpeckers' version starts with the basic design and adds a couple features and 21st century materials and machining accuracy. They've also produced a larger size - the Odd Job XL.
Odd Job can take the place of these 10 tools:
- Try square
- Mitre square
- T-Square
- Marking gauge
- Depth gauge
- Level
- Beam compass
- Inside corner square
- Stainless steel rule
- Hardened steel scratch awl
Woodpeckers Odd Job comes in two sizes
The smaller Odd Job is nearly identical to the original, and perfect to keep in your apron pocket. The body is 4 x 2-3/8 x 3/4 inches, and it includes a 6 inch stainless steel rule.
The Odd Job XL is about 50% larger at 6 x 3-5/8 x 1-1/4 inches and includes a 12 inch rule.
An 8 inch rule, available separately, fits both models.
Odd Jobs are precisely machined by Woodpeckers in Ohio
Built in their own manufacturing facility like the rest of their tools, the Odd Job and Odd Job XL are made from a solid billet of aircraft grade aluminum. The knurled knobs and rule are stainless steel, and the scratch awl is made from hardened steel to stay sharp.
Stainless steel rule is made for precise work
Each rule has a satin finish and clear laser-engraved markings for easy reading. When using the tool as a beam compass, select from one of the two precision-bored sleeves that lock into the rule. One is sized for the included scratch awl, and the other for most 0.9 millimetre mechanical pencils. This is an improvement over the original design.
Odd Job and Odd Job XL are available in metric or imperial, and in sets
Besides the standard and XL sizes, you can also choose from metric (1 millimetre) or imperial (1/32 inch) graduations on the rules. Sets of both sizes in metric or imperial are available with a wall-mount Rack-it storage bracket.
