With the same design as their popular 1281 Precision Woodworking Square but with special hard coat anodizing which yields a surface with Rockwell C-65 hardness. This hardness is comparable to the best tool steels, eliminates abrasion, resists fading, and reduces friction.
Each 1281 square starts with one piece of cast and ground aluminum tool plate (chosen as it’s the most stable aluminum available). It is precision milled to within +/-0.0085 degrees (0.001 inch over the 12 inch blade length). Woodpeckers guarantees that accuracy, and if you ever find your 1281 out of square by more than 0.001 inch over the length, you can send it back to Woodpeckers and they will repair or replace it for you.
Two cheeks are added to the sides of each core. These are 1/4 inch narrower than the blade, creating a shoulder that allows the square to balance on the edge of your workpiece by itself. The notch inside the corner allows access right to the edge of the material. The cheeks are pinned in place with chrome hardened steel pins for rigidity and perfect alignment.
Available with either metric or imperial markings, the laser-engraved scales are accurate to within 0.004 inches of total accumulated error over the length of the blade. Each tool comes with a custom-fitted MDF case that can be wall mounted so it’s always safe, yet ready to grab.
As with all Woodpeckers tools, the 1281 SE is made and inspected in Strongsville, Ohio.
