Festool End User Training Sessions - Conturo / Planex

This morning, we had one of Festool USA's  top trainers in the store for two classes to teach users how to get the best results from the power tools.

Conturo End User Training

In the first class, Steve Bace started by giving us an overview of how the Conturo Hand-Held Edge Bander operates, then demonstrated the application of wood and PVC edge banding on straight and curved edges.

He then used the Edge Banding Trimmer to cut the ends, and the MFK 700 EQ/B Edge Banding Trim Router to level the edges, followed by a quick pass with the Carbide Radius Scraper to finish the edge. The scraper's built-in radii made it quick to ease the sharp edge for a nice feel.

Next, Steve installed the Conturo in the MFT/3 Conturo Table and used it to apply edging to a beveled edge.

Finally, he went back and talked about all the components in the Conturo System and answered questions.

Planex End User Training

In the second class, Steve Bace started by explaining how the CT 36 AC Dust Extractor works. This Festool Dust Extractor, specifically designed for use with drywall dust, is different from the rest because it features a special function which pulses air backwards through the filter to clean it at regular intervals. He also showed how to do a "super clean" of the filter using the Blast Gate.

Then we focused on the Planex Drywall Sander. He put the sander together and talked about the design and how the sprung brushes that surround the sanding pad work to contain dust and not scratch the compound.

He demonstrated the sander with both suction modes - vacuum and perimeter - and we saw first-hand how little dust escapes. Check out this video to see for yourself.

He showed us the slim sanding pad and described how to use the interface pads for a level 5 finish.

Finally, he set up the Planex with the Support Harness which distributes the weight of the sander over the shoulders and hips, rather than carrying the sander in your hands.

It was great to have Steve share his knowledge with us, and everybody who attended - including those who own and use the tools - came away with a better understanding of the tools and a few useful tips.

If you have questions about these or other tools, drop by the store or give us a call and we would be more than happy to help.

We will be offering more classes in the future, so be sure to stay tuned for details. If you have suggestions for classes, please e-mail me.
